29 Dec Faceoff for Matt a Success!
About $26,000 was raised at the Dec. 23 “Face Off for Matt” charity ice hockey event, money that is being donated to help 10-year-old Matt Adonis of Roxbury in his battle against a brain tumor, said Krista Davis, one of the event organizers.
Davis, whose son plays hockey with Adonis, said about 500 people attended the game, which took place at Aspen Ice in Randolph. She said the idea for the charity game came to parents of the young hockey players shortly after Adonis was diagnosed in September.
“We met weekly while our kids were skating,” said the Morristown resident. “We decided to have an event and we engaged with the Roxbury Recreation hockey league, NJ Freeze and Aspen Ice.”
